The Brass Knob is the closest thing Perimeter Road has to a permanent fixture: a small family-owned hotel on Don Juico Avenue with a restaurant, a street-side cafe and a sports bar, run by the same family since 1990. That's older than some of the men drinking in it, and in a town where bars change names every second monsoon, thirty-five-plus years of the same sign is worth a page on its own.

It is not a go-go bar and doesn't pretend to be. What you get is a proper bar counter, sport on the screens, a menu that runs from breakfast through steaks, and a handful of ladies behind and around the bar whom reviewers over the years have described as gracious and friendly. They'll chat, they'll happily accept a ladies' drink if you offer, and nobody's going to sulk if you don't. It's the sort of room where you can watch a whole game without being sold anything. Beer is cheap — "cheaply priced beer" is practically the house motto in the reviews — and as of August 2026 I'd expect a San Mig Light to come in around ₱80–110, with a ladies' drink somewhere in the ₱150–250 range; the bar's listed hours run from early afternoon to about ten, though the restaurant opens earlier and the cafe out front catches the breakfast crowd.

The crowd is exactly what you'd expect on this stretch: older Western expats who live along Perimeter Road, hotel guests from the Brass Knob's own twenty-one rooms and the bigger places nearby, retired servicemen, and the occasional first-timer who has wandered out from Walking Street looking for somewhere quieter and cheaper and found it. It's an easy room to be a regular in, and by the third visit the staff will have your drink half poured.

Harry remembers: I've been sitting at that bar since the days when Perimeter Road was mostly fence and dust. It has never been the flashiest room in town and it has never tried to be, which is exactly why it's still here. If you're staying out this way — the Clarkton, the ABC, or the Knob itself — it's your local. If you're not, it's the best excuse I know for a trike ride to the fence road.

Stable tip: come for a late breakfast at the cafe and stay for a lunchtime beer at the bar. Perimeter Road is a daytime road as much as a night one, and this is where its day starts.
