Who owns this site
harrythehorse.com is published by the company that operates filipina.app, a dating app for meeting Filipinas. Harry the Horse is the pen name the original 1999 newsletter was written under and the voice the guide is written in today; the publisher is a company. If you need to reach the publisher about anything on this page, use harry@harrythehorse.com.
How the site makes money
One way only: by sending readers to filipina.app. Every page carries several units promoting the app — in the header, in the sidebar, between sections of an article, in a bar across the bottom of your phone. They are all labelled “Harry’s partner · filipina.app”, they all lead to the same place, and the links carry a tag identifying that you arrived from this site.
What the site does not do:
- No third-party display advertising, ad networks or retargeting pixels.
- No affiliate links — not for hotels, not for flights, not for tours, not for anything.
- No sponsored posts, paid reviews, gifted stays or “featured venue” slots.
- No selling of reader data. There is nothing to sell, because almost nothing is collected — see privacy.
How listings are decided
Editorially, by one rule: would a reader want to know about this place? Long-standing venues get preference over this month’s newcomer, because a guide that recommends a bar that closes in six weeks is no use to anybody. Ratings are Harry’s opinion and are labelled as such. Where a venue can’t be verified, the page says so rather than pretending.
Businesses can ask for factual corrections and get them. Businesses cannot buy a listing, buy a better rating, or buy a removal. Nobody has ever been charged a peso to appear here and nobody ever will be.
Photographs and sources
Location photography is mostly Creative Commons material from Wikimedia Commons, credited under each image with the photographer and licence, and listed in full on the credits page. Profile photographs in the partner units belong to filipina.app and are used with permission. Prices, hours and policies come from Harry’s own spending, reader reports, venue pages and published sources, and every page says when it was last checked and how.
Independence and complaints
If you think something on this site has been influenced by the commercial arrangement described above, say so — harry@harrythehorse.com — and the page gets re-read by someone who wasn’t involved in writing it. Corrections are made in public: the page changes and the “last verified” date moves.
This page is part of the site’s terms, along with the disclaimer at the foot of every page. The short version of that disclaimer: Angeles changes fast, we do our best, check before you rely on anything, and you go out at your own risk.
