Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta
Mid-February, Thursday to Sunday (2026: Feb 13–15 at New Clark City; the 2027 dates should be similar) New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac (about 45 minutes north of Angeles by car); held at the Clark Parade Grounds from 1994 to 2018
The biggest aviation party in the country — dozens of hot-air balloons at dawn, skydivers, aerobatics and a night glow — now held at New Clark City up the road from Angeles. Go early, go once, and book your hotel ahead.

The Balloon Fiesta started in 1994 on the old Clark Parade Grounds as a way of cheering up a region still digging itself out from under Pinatubo ash, and it grew into the largest sports-aviation event in the Philippines. After a couple of wandering years it settled at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, on a five-year run from 2024, which is where the 2026 edition (February 13–15) flew its 26th year — with more special-shaped balloons than ever, according to the organisers.
The format hasn't changed much since I first stood in a wet field with a coffee at 5am: gates open before dawn, the balloons inflate and lift off around sunrise while the air is still, then the day fills with skydiving, aerobatic displays, remote-control aircraft, kite flying, food stalls and a lot of families. Late afternoon brings a second flight window and, on the big night, the "night glow" — tethered balloons lit from inside like giant lanterns while a band plays.
Practicalities: it is a Thursday-to-Sunday event and the weekend days are packed. Hire a car and driver or join a hotel tour rather than trusting a trike; the New Clark City exit off the expressway is the one you want. Tickets are sold on the gate and online — check the official page for current prices, they change every year. Bring a hat, sunscreen and patience for the queues.
For Angeles nightlife it matters in one way: hotels on and around Fields Avenue fill up that weekend with families and Manila day-trippers, so book early and expect a slower Walking Street on the Sunday when everyone is sleeping off a 4am start.
Why go
It is genuinely spectacular at dawn — a hundred-odd balloons going up in the cool February air — and the crowd is a nice antidote to a week of neon. Do the dawn launch, breakfast on the field, back on the strip by lunch.
