Bar Hoppin' — Barhoppin on the sign, apostrophe optional — was a medium-sized go-go bar on Constain Street, the short, well-lit side street that runs off Fields Avenue between the Skytrax club and Angel Witch at the top end of Walking Street. It was around from about 2004, which made it a fixture for over a decade, and it's the sort of place a lot of returning visitors ask me about, which is why the page exists.
The room, for the record: a red-and-white frontage with a big sign you couldn't miss, a long stage running down one wall with stools right up against it, seating opposite for fifty-odd, and in its prime a line-up the directories put at twenty-five to thirty dancers plus a small army of door girls and waitresses. Hours were five in the afternoon to two in the morning. It was never the fanciest room in town, but it was a busy little corner, and being just off the strip meant it kept the Walking Street energy without quite the Walking Street prices.
That was then. By 2017 the address had become Route 69 — the same room, refitted with couch seating along one wall, the stage opposite and a small fanned outdoor area, running six in the evening to three. So the Bar Hoppin' name is history and this page is marked accordingly. As for Route 69 itself: I don't have two recent, independent sources confirming it's trading in August 2026, and the small rooms off the strip have reshuffled since the pandemic. If you're at the top end of Walking Street, Constain Street is a thirty-second detour — look for the sign, whatever it says this year.
Prices, if the successor is open, should sit with the off-strip rooms: roughly ₱130–170 for a San Mig Light and ₱250–350 for a ladies' drink is my August 2026 estimate for the stretch, to be checked against the menu.
Harry remembers: Bar Hoppin' was a good second-stop bar — close enough to the strip to be lively, far enough off it that the stools were free. I never made a night of it, but I made a lot of hours of it. If Route 69 has kept the long stage and the easy pace, it's doing the old room justice.
