Wild Orchid Resort is what happens when someone builds a proper tropical pool resort a few minutes' walk from Walking Street. It sits on A. Santos Street in Balibago — turn off Fields Avenue near Kokomos and keep going — and behind the gate you get lush gardens, two outdoor pools (one of the biggest in the city, lagoon-style, with rooms opening straight onto it), a couple of spa tubs and the poolside Tradewinds restaurant doing international food and cold beer all day.
The pool scene is the point. Sunday afternoons around the pool are a gentle, sociable affair — expats reading papers, guests recovering, the odd bar girl in a sundress — and it's a lot calmer than the Score Birds bikini contests up the road. Staff get warm reviews: friendly, welcoming, quick to help with a Grab or a laundry bag.
Rooms are the weak spot, and I'll say it plainly because plenty of reviewers do: they're small for the money and the older wings show their age. The resort has been renovating rooms through 2025–26 and the upgraded ones are noticeably better, so ask for a renovated room, a poolside room, or one in the newer Lagoon section next door (marketed as Wild Orchid Lagoon Resort — same owners, same pool complex, key-card access, fresher fit-out). Balcony rooms and the jacuzzi rooms are the ones worth paying for.
Guest policy: as reported by guests and the guest-friendly listings as of August 2026, visitors are welcome with ID at the desk and no joiner fee is charged. It's been that way for years and it's a big part of why the place fills with the nightlife crowd.
Noise is low — you're off the avenue and the gardens soak up the rest. Breakfast is à la carte or a modest buffet at Tradewinds; the omelettes are fine and the coffee is drinkable, which is all I ask. Rates start around ₱3,500 in low season (Aug 2026), which is a touch high for the room but fair for the pool.
Who it suits: anyone who wants a proper swim and a garden between nights on the strip, and doesn't need a big room.
