Valhalla was one of the odder and, for a while, more useful rooms on Walking Street: half diner, half go-go bar, in an unassuming frontage across from Shooterz and near Viking, a fair way along the strip from the Fields Avenue entrance. As of August 2026 Google lists it as permanently closed, and I’ve found nothing current to contradict that, so this page is a ‘Harry remembers’ rather than a recommendation. If you spot a Valhalla sign lit up on your trip, tell me and I’ll happily eat my words.
What made it different was the layout. Behind the plain door the place opened up — reviewers called it ‘quite spacious’ — into two zones: a dining area where you could get a proper feed, and a bar-and-stage side with a small rectangular open stage, a lot of lighting, and a full-size pool table at the back. It was fully air-conditioned, which on a Walking Street August night is worth more than any line-up, and the old write-ups talk about fifty-odd performers on the roster, music that ‘leaned away from hip hop’, girls who were fun and full of energy, and a happy hour that was one of the better deals on the strip. Local beer was at the cheaper end and it took cards.
The system was the standard one — no cover, your drink, her ladies’ drink if you wanted company — with the twist that you could actually eat a meal in the same building, which for a bloke on his own at nine o’clock was a genuinely handy thing.
Why did it close? I don’t know, and I won’t guess in print. Walking Street rooms shut for a hundred reasons — leases, owners going home, the pandemic years thinning the herd — and a hybrid concept is always a harder sell than a straight go-go bar. If the site has reopened as something else since Google last checked, it’ll be a different name and probably a different idea.
For the same job today: eat first somewhere on Fields Avenue, then pick a room. Viking, Champagne and Shooterz are all within a few steps of where Valhalla stood.
