La Bamba is the rock ’n’ roll bar on Walking Street, a few doors along from Lollipop and Gecko’s in the stretch near Rhapsody, and one of the longest-running rooms on the strip under one name — it started life as Hobo Bar, became La Bamba Cantina, and has been plain La Bamba for as long as most visitors can remember. It’s trading in 2026 with a healthy run of Google reviews, most of them from people who sound suspiciously like me.

The reason is the music. Where the big rooms pump EDM and the Korean-leaning bars play K-pop, La Bamba plays classic rock — sixties through nineties, the stuff you know every word of — at a volume that lets you sing along without shouting. Reviewers call it a ‘neighbourhood bar’ and that’s exactly right: small, unpretentious, a central stage ringed by red bar stools so you’re close to the dancers, and a proper bar behind it with a better bourbon selection than a go-go bar has any right to. Frozen margaritas come in big pitchers if you’re in a group and feeling Mexican, which the name rather encourages.

It is not a big line-up and it isn’t trying to be. The girls dance in rotation on the small stage, and once you’ve bought one a ladies’ drink she’ll sit and talk — and in this room you can actually hear her. Prices are among the friendliest on Walking Street: local beer around ₱100–140 and ladies’ drinks from about ₱280 as of August 2026, no cover. Hours are listed from around 17:00 to 02:00, so it’s a good early stop and a good mid-evening one; it isn’t the last light on.

Crowd: older than the strip average, a lot of repeat visitors and expats, and plenty of solo drinkers who came for one and stayed for the second side of the album.

Harry remembers Hobo Bar, which tells you how long this doorway has been serving. La Bamba is what I point the over-fifties at when they tell me the strip is too loud: it isn’t, you’re just in the wrong bar. This is the right one.
